This is a very well made brush. The bristles are boar bristles and will not scratch your scalp. It is a great brush for very fine hair. I do not think it is good for thick hair, as it won't go through. It is all about getting the right brush for your hair. Boar bristles can help with shine as well. If you like to have a good shine in your hair it is a good thing to use a brush like this. It holds and spreads your natural oils through your hair. I have long hair, and it is not super thick, but I can not get this brush to really go through my hair to the scalp, however I still really like it, I just make sure I brush it out really good first, then use this to "shine'" it up. I do think this would be a amazing brush for a child, as it won't hurt them, and will keep their hair nice and shiney. The wood is so nice on this brush, and it is so well made, if it will work for you, you won't find a better brush.
